Dus Across Protocol wil privé gaan en ACX-houders krijgen een interessante keuze. Het team stelt voor om de DAO-structuur op te heffen en om te zetten in een traditionele Amerikaanse C-corporation, genaamd AcrossCo. Het idee is dat een normale bedrijfsstructuur het makkelijker maakt voor institutionele partners om mee samen te werken en contracten af te sluiten. De markt reageerde behoorlijk enthousiast op dit voorstel. ACX steeg flink nadat het plan werd aangekondigd, hoewel de prijs nu rond de $0.04 schommelt. Tokenhouders krijgen twee opties: hun ACX inwisselen voor aandelen in het nieuwe bedrijf met een 1:1 verhouding, of hun tokens verkopen voor USDC tegen $0.04375. Die uitkoopprijs is een premie van 25% ten opzichte van wat de gemiddelde handelsprijs was voordat het voorstel live ging. Wat interessant is: veel traders lijken in te zetten op die premie-mogelijkheid of denken dat de aandelenoptie meer waard zal zijn. Het handelsvolume was enorm hoog, wat laat zien hoeveel speculatie er rond dit voorstel hangt. Ter vergelijking: Bitcoin handelt momenteel vlak, dus dit is echt een Across-verhaal. Hoe werkt het praktisch? Tokenhouders met meer dan 5 miljoen ACX kunnen direct converteren naar aandelen. Wie minder heeft, kan via een SPV-structuur deelnemen met een minimum van ongeveer 250.000 ACX. Iedereen krijgt dezelfde 1:1 verhouding, dus geen onderscheid tussen grote en kleine houders. Wie niet mee wil doen, krijgt die USDC-uitkoop op premie. De governance-stemming was gepland voor eind maart, dus tegen nu toe moet duidelijk zijn of dit voorstel wordt aangenomen. Risk Labs zei zelf dat ACX "aanzienlijk ondergewaardeerd" is en ziet dit als kans om in Across te verdubbelen. Het grappige is dat dit een vrij drastische stap is. Jarenlang hebben DeFi-voorstanders betoogd dat tokens en DAO's beter zijn dan traditionele bedrijven. Across zegt nu eigenlijk het tegenovergestelde: dat de tokenstructuur hen remt en dat een C-corporation beter werkt. Dat is best een moment voor de DeFi-community om over na te denken.
