On February 28th local time, according to two U.S. sources and a U.S. official familiar with the matter, Israel and the United States chose to launch an attack on Iran on Saturday, coinciding with a meeting between Iran’s Supreme Leader Khamenei and his senior aides. Israel reported that Khamenei and his senior aides, including Iran’s Defense Committee Secretary Ali Shamkhani and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Mohammad Pakpour, were killed in the airstrike. Two Iranian sources said that shortly before the airstrike began, Khamenei met with Shamkhani and Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, at a secure location on Saturday.
Earlier, an Israeli senior official stated that Khamenei’s body had been recovered. U.S. President Donald Trump posted on his “Truth Social” platform that intelligence agencies tracked Iran’s top leader’s whereabouts and subsequently killed him. (CCTV News)
