IT House, February 12 — Microsoft is trying to turn around user opinions on Windows 11 by 2026. As part of its overall strategy, Microsoft is developing several long-requested features to show that it is taking feedback seriously. Tonight, foreign media Windows Central, citing insiders, reported that one of the most anticipated features is the return of the taskbar movement functionality.

The ability to freely move the taskbar was a traditional feature since Windows 95 but was removed during the Windows 11 redesign in 2021. After five years, Microsoft is finally preparing to bring this feature back.

Sources say that future versions of Windows 11 will support fixing the taskbar to the left, right, or top of the screen. Microsoft is adjusting the related pop-up windows and button logic to accommodate different placement directions. Additionally, Microsoft is developing a taskbar size adjustment feature, allowing users to control the proportion of the screen the taskbar occupies.

Insiders reveal that these features are already in development and, if plans remain unchanged, will be showcased in summer. IT House learned from the report that the Windows team has prioritized taskbar optimization as a “high-priority” task and is investing more resources to ensure timely release.

Beyond the taskbar, Microsoft is also working on core issues such as performance improvements and File Explorer stability. The report suggests that Microsoft hopes to rebuild a positive market sentiment for Windows 11 by addressing these high-priority feedback areas.
