The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) issued a warning on the 5th that, due to a strong solar flare from the Sun, Earth has experienced and may continue to experience minor geomagnetic storms. According to the agency, a powerful solar flare erupted on the 4th, classified as X4.2, with X being the highest intensity level for solar flares, and the number indicating its energy strength. The agency stated that such intense solar flares typically erupt rapidly, with energy release and decline potentially lasting from a few minutes to several hours. After the flare, high-frequency radio communications on the sunward side of Earth may experience significant attenuation or signal interruptions. The agency also said that monitoring data shows that on the 5th, geomagnetic activity reached a G1 (minor) level, and G1 geomagnetic storms are still possible on the 6th and 8th. Geomagnetic storms may cause power grid fluctuations in high-latitude areas, affect some satellite operations, and potentially allow for aurora observations in high-latitude regions of North America.
