Recently, at the Dongguan “Two Sessions,” several members of the Municipal CPPCC proposed that “the flood of complaints is damaging the educational environment,” which resonated strongly across society and trended on various hot searches and lists. Why? Teachers have long suffered from an overwhelming number of complaints and reports!
In recent years, the excessive complaints and reports from parents and students have caused obvious negative ripple effects. Not only do they disrupt the normal order of schools, but more seriously, in handling these complaints, the tendency to punish teachers to appease the complainants has created a chilling effect, forcing many frontline teachers to give up their disciplinary responsibilities. This is undoubtedly a greater tragedy for Chinese education.
Not all of these reports are unjustified or false. Half月谈 once reported that out of 128 complaints in a southwestern county, only 7 were substantiated.
