When governments tighten internet controls, decentralized networks become more relevant. Uganda's case illustrates this: on December 19, just three weeks before the January 15 election, the country restricted satellite internet imports. Now, approval from military leadership is required for any satellite connectivity equipment. This move raises questions about digital freedom and access—exactly the kind of scenarios crypto and decentralized infrastructure were designed to address. As traditional internet gateways face political restrictions worldwide, alternative connectivity solutions gain urgency. Whether it's satellite networks or decentralized protocols, the underlying debate remains: who controls your access to information?

Another government is staging a drama of internet control... to put it bluntly, they are still afraid of information flow. However, to be honest, decentralization sounds great, but when it comes to actual usage, the gas fees can really discourage you. I checked the gas tracker at 2 AM last night and it was still over 200+ gwei. Waiting for a cross-chain bridge took me until 5 AM before I could finally make a move. Uganda's ban on satellite networks is indeed unsustainable, but what I'm more concerned about is how long it will take for decentralized infrastructure to mature enough to replace centralized networks... these days, saving money has even come down to cross-chain fees.

That's why we need web3; if we don't get it going, we're really going to be controlled to death.

The situation with satellite networks being strangled... is really becoming more and more absurd. Is decentralization the only way to survive?
