Woodside Secures Multi-Year LNG Contract with BOTAS as Louisiana Project Ramps Up
Energy producer Woodside has finalized a landmark long-term agreement with Türkiye’s state-owned pipeline operator BOTAS, marking a significant expansion in the company’s LNG export commitments. The nine-year supply contract will commence in 2030 and represents a major offtake arrangement in an increasingly competitive global energy market.
Supply Details and Scale
Under the agreement, Woodside will deliver approximately 0.5 million tonnes of LNG annually to BOTAS, equivalent to roughly 5.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas. This consistent volume commitment underscores both parties’ confidence in long-term energy stability. The arrangement reflects growing demand from Turkey’s energy sector as the country diversifies its supply sources and strengthens its energy security position.
Sourcing Strategy
The LNG volumes will be sourced predominantly from Woodside’s Louisiana LNG project, currently in development in the United States. This American-based facility represents a cornerstone of the company’s production strategy. Beyond the Louisiana asset, Woodside will leverage volumes from its wider portfolio to fulfill commitments to BOTAS, providing operational flexibility and ensuring reliable delivery schedules throughout the contract period.
Market Implications
The deal with BOTAS reflects the robust demand trajectory for LNG in Mediterranean and European markets. By locking in long-term supply arrangements, Woodside is positioning itself to capitalize on structural energy demand growth while BOTAS secures diversified sourcing that supports Turkey’s energy independence objectives. This partnership exemplifies how major energy players are structuring multi-decade relationships to navigate both supply and demand certainties in the global LNG market.
