LG Electronics Names Lyu Jae-cheol to Lead as New CEO, Replacing William Cho From December
South Korean electronics giant LG Electronics is charting a new leadership direction with Lyu Jae-cheol taking the helm as Chief Executive Officer, effective December 1. The shift marks the end of William Cho’s four-year tenure at the top, during which the company expanded beyond traditional consumer appliances into emerging sectors including mobility and commercial solutions.
Strategic Leadership Transition Signals Growth Pivot
Lyu Jae-cheol’s promotion comes off the back of his successful track record leading the Home Appliance Solution Company, where he orchestrated significant growth in business-to-business operations and direct-to-consumer channels through subscription-based models. His three-decade tenure at LG—joining the company in 1989 as a research scientist—positions him to drive the organization’s next phase of expansion.
The leadership reshuffle extends across multiple divisions. Baek Seung-tae, previously overseeing Kitchen Solutions, assumes command of the Home Appliance Solution Company. Meanwhile, Eun Seok-hyun and James Lee, heads of Vehicle Solutions and Eco Solutions respectively, both receive promotions to president-level roles. Kwack Do-yeong steps into the newly created position of Regional Representative for LG Electronics North America and USA Operations.
Organizational Overhaul to Accelerate B2B Momentum
Concurrent with the leadership changes, LG is implementing a comprehensive organizational restructure designed to speed up decision-making and unlock growth in high-potential segments. The company plans to strengthen its two core B2B pillars: vehicle solutions and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
The restructuring introduces several new operational units. The Home Appliance Solution Company will establish a dedicated B2B Overseas Sales Division and elevate its Built-in and Cooking Business to standalone status. A newly formed HS Robotics Lab will consolidate advanced robotics capabilities previously scattered across the organization.
The Mobile Solutions Company is integrating its television and IT operations into a unified Display Business unit, complete with a dedicated Display Product Development Group. These moves reflect LG’s commitment to maintaining its four-company structure while creating agile business units focused on high-growth domains including HVAC, webOS software, and robotics technology.
All executive appointments take effect December 1, 2025, with related promotions rolling out January 1, 2026. Trading in South Korea showed LG Electronics shares down 0.23% at 85,200 won.
