Platform X challenges the EU fine of €120 million
The European Commission took decisive action against the platform X, owned by Elon Musk, in December 2025, imposing a fine of €120 million. According to The Brussels Times, this was the first practical application in history of the new Digital Services Act, marking a turning point in the regulation of large internet platforms. However, platform X did not remain indifferent to this decision and decided to challenge the fine, raising serious accusations against EU authorities.
European Commission Imposes Fine for Alleged Violations
The new Digital Services Act, which came into force in the European Union, establishes strict requirements to combat illegal content, disinformation, and various abuses on platforms. As one of the largest social networks in the world, platform X came under close scrutiny by European regulators in the context of implementing these new rules. The €120 million fine reflects the EU’s serious approach to ensuring compliance with the removal of illegal content and minimizing the spread of false information.
X Platform Highlights Systemic Flaws in Investigation
According to Jin10, X actively opposes this fine, claiming that the European Commission’s investigation was conducted with significant gaps. In an official statement, the platform details the alleged errors made by European officials. X argues that the decision was based on an incomplete and superficial investigation that ignored critical facts about the company’s actual moderation efforts.
Challenges to Legal Fairness and Procedural Guarantees
X raises serious concerns about violations of its procedural rights and fair trial. The company emphasizes that the investigation contained misinterpretations of the core obligations set out by the Digital Services Act. Additionally, X points to systemic errors in applying these norms to its operations. This approach demonstrates the platform’s intention to thoroughly contest the fine through legal channels and to question the justification of the European bureaucracy’s stance on compliance with digital regulations.
