Predictive Power = Productivity? New KPI in the AI Era
Elon Musk has always preferred to let results speak for themselves. His logic is simple: whether a rocket can be recovered depends on how accurately you can predict its trajectory; whether autonomous driving is safe depends on your ability to forecast risks. Predictive ability directly translates into productivity, which is almost a universal rule in engineering.
From a business perspective, this is also a "value formula." Being able to predict user needs reduces inventory; predicting energy fluctuations optimizes the power grid; forecasting market sentiment helps avoid pitfalls. Predictive power = increased resource utilization.
But prediction also has side effects: when everyone relies on algorithmic forecasts, does the system become fragile? If AI collectively judges the same direction, the market could become crowded in an instant. Prediction itself changes the future—this is a kind of "observer effect."
Therefore, treating prediction as a standard of wisdom is the ultimate endorsement of "pragmatism." But don’t forget, truly advanced intelligence may also include creating the future, not just predicting it. Systems that can design new paths are more imaginative than those that only calculate probabilities.
Prediction is fundamental; creation is the pinnacle.
