On January 20th, I was still filling up at $1.55 AUD per liter. Yesterday it had already jumped to $2.40 AUD per liter. Over the past few days, I've watched the numbers climb every single day. Filling up a full tank of gas has gone from around $70 to nearly $110 AUD.
High oil prices are now trickling down to the end consumers. Yesterday, I was planning to call someone to come fix my garage door, but they told me the service call fee would be $400 because gas is so expensive—making a special trip just for me has become costly.
I then found a guy on Hipages who happened to be passing near my area anyway, and he only charged $260.
Yesterday, when I heard that domestic oil prices were also going to spike, I felt a bit better psychologically. But today I heard that the National Development and Reform Commission had implemented price controls with the state subsidizing half the increase, and suddenly I thought socialism isn't so bad after all.😂😂😂
