The Linux Foundation, a non-profit organization supporting open-source software, announced the creation of the x402 Foundation. The x402 protocol was developed by Coinbase in partnership with Cloudflare to simplify microtransactions and facilitate payments between AI agents. This standard was introduced in May 2025. The idea behind the x402 protocol is to embed payment operations into HTTP messages. More details: In its press release, the Linux Foundation stated that the creation of the x402 Foundation aims to promote the development and further dissemination of the protocol. The x402 Foundation has already been joined by Cloudflare, Stripe, Amazon Web Services, Coinbase, Circle, Solana Foundation, and others. Transitioning the protocol under the Linux Foundation's umbrella means that the solution becomes neutral, i.e., without centralized control, industry-wide, and fully open. A similar model is used by solutions such as Kubernetes, Hyperledger, and OpenAPI.#GateSquareAprilPostingChallenge
