Quantum threat nightmare is back again with Google’s latest paper.

they estimate cutting the requirement to break ECC down to ~500k qubits, way lower than before, and quantum-resistant coins moved instantly.
I dug into it and only ~0.5% of blockchain repos actually reference real post-quantum algorithms now. the entire industry is still built on math a future quantum computer could eat for breakfast.
ppl are front running the catalyst now, so here’s what’s actually being built:
> @QRLedger | $QRL: OG from 2018, uses XMSS (hash-based, IETF-specified). probably the most battle-tested PQC chain out there. now trying to evolve into Zond with EVM compatibility + migration to SPHINCS+ and ML-DSA.
> @Algorand | $ALGO: Falcon-1024 signatures live since 2022, Google’s paper literally cited them as a real-world PQC deployment. still has some ECDSA exposure at the account layer, but it’s the most advanced major L1 by a mile.
> @quipnetwork | $QUIP: WOTS+ wrapper that protects your existing wallet on any chain without migration. you keep MetaMask, they handle the PQC layer. also building a quantum compute marketplace using D-Wave hardware.
> @RunningCKB | $CKB: built on a RISC-V VM where crypto algos are upgradeable smart contracts. SPHINCS+ lock script already live + audited, Quantum Purse wallet shipped. no hard fork needed to add new PQC schemes.
> @NaorisProtocol: mainnet launched April 2026, still invite-only. uses ML-DSA-87 (NIST’s highest security level), dPoSec consensus, backed by Tim Draper + NATO advisors. pushing a DePIN-style security mesh.
> @QANplatform | $QANX: most dev-friendly PQC architecture on paper. Dilithium signatures, full EVM compat, write smart contracts in multiple languages. EU gov pilot + IBM angle, but mainnet delayed for years with closed source.
> @PQabelian | $ABEL: lattice-based PQC + multi-tier privacy (pseudonymous → fully private → compliance mode). founded by actual cryptography professors, live since 2022.
for the majors, Ethereum is maybe ~20% there. EIP-8141, EIP-7885, and Vitalik’s quantum emergency hard fork plan are all in motion.
Bitcoin is the scary one with ~6M BTC having exposed public keys on-chain, no credible PQC timeline, and a community that’s culturally allergic to the changes needed.
the data is starting to point to a 5–7 year window for Q-Day. I’m kinda getting pulled into this rabbit hole already.
