I have recently noticed an interesting move by Bhutan in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. The country's sovereign wealth fund, "Druk Holding and Investments," has decided to collaborate with Sei Development to operate a verification contract on the Sei network, reflecting a clear strategic direction toward the digital economy.

What draws attention here is that Bhutan is not just verifying the network. Officials have indicated the possibility of developing deeper cooperation later in payments, digital tokens, and digital identity. This points to a comprehensive vision for digital transformation.

The background here is very important. Bhutan is already advanced in this field — it has developed a self-sovereign identity system built on Ethereum for millions of its residents and has collected approximately 11,286 bitcoins through mining operations. These digital assets are invested in national infrastructure projects, including the ambitious Gelephu Mindfulness City project.

What’s intriguing is how Bhutan will utilize this collaboration with Sei in the coming months. Will it become a leading country in government-level blockchain adoption? It seems Bhutan is seriously betting on this direction.
