CBS News on February 28th, citing two anonymous U.S. officials, reported that approximately 40 Iranian officials, including Iran’s Minister of Defense, have died in attacks by the U.S. and Israel on Iran. The report states that these officials are believed to include Iran’s Minister of Defense Aziz Nasirzadeh and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Commander Mohammad Pakpour. It is currently unclear whether they were attacked at the same location or multiple sites. Previously, the Israel Defense Forces issued a statement saying that earlier on February 28th, the Air Force carried out strikes against hundreds of military targets inside Iran, including multiple sites where high-ranking Iranian defense officials gathered. Aziz Nasirzadeh, Mohammad Pakpour, and Iranian Defense Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani were among six people killed in the IDF’s initial strikes. (Xinhua)
