Amazon has ceased operations of its Blue Jay warehouse robot, less than six months after its introduction, reassigning staff to other robotics projects. The decision was due to high costs, manufacturing complexity, and implementation issues, but Amazon plans to incorporate parts of Blue Jay’s technology into new systems like “Flex Cell.” This move aligns with Amazon’s transition to a more modular warehouse system called “Orbital” and comes as analysts predict significant cost savings from Amazon’s advanced robotics in the future.
