Supreme People's Procuratorate reports on the case of Lin Mouwu and others' "online box opening" infringing on citizens' personal information

The Supreme People’s Procuratorate announced eight typical cases of the “Protecting People’s Livelihood” special campaign, including the series of cases involving Lin Mouwu and others for “online box opening” violations of citizens’ personal information. From 2023 to 2025, Lin Mouwu, Wang Moukang, Liu Moubiao, and Sun Moucheng illegally obtained citizens’ personal information data through encrypted communication tools and other internet channels, then sold it for profit using virtual currency payments. In October 2025, Beijing prosecutors依法 filed criminal charges against Lin Mouwu and four others for suspected violations of citizens’ personal information rights and illegal use of information networks.
