The incident sparked protests and a boycott among OpenAI users, with 700,000 people canceling subscriptions, uninstalling ChatGPT, and switching to Anthropic’s Claude.

Supported by a large user base, Anthropic’s Claude soared to the top of the free app charts in the U.S. App Store, while OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini ranked second and third. Previously, Claude experienced increased failure rates, possibly related to a surge in traffic.
