🔴Court rejects 90-day delay: $175B tariff refunds could accelerate

A federal appeals court denied the Justice Department’s request for a 90-day pause, clearing the way for the next phase after the Supreme Court ruled the broad tariffs unlawful. The case has been sent back to the U.S. Court of International Trade in New York to determine how refunds will be processed for importers, with potential repayments estimated at up to $175 billion. Lawyers expect the court to press the government to submit a compliance plan quickly. The biggest hurdle is funding—Treasury isn’t sitting on that much cash—fueling debate that new tariffs could be used to offset the refund bill.
