Hong Kong Food and Environmental Hygiene Department’s Food Safety Centre announced today (February 24) that, in response to the World Organisation for Animal Health’s report, outbreaks of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza have occurred in Nørresundby, Denmark; Lipno District, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Poland; Amite County, Mississippi, USA; Haskell County, Kansas; and Hart County, Georgia. Additionally, highly pathogenic H5N9 avian influenza has been reported in Boryeong, Chungcheongnam-do, South Korea. The Centre has immediately instructed the industry to suspend the import of poultry and poultry products (including eggs) from these regions to protect public health in Hong Kong. (HK01 News)
