The Military Fire Department of Minas Gerais in southeastern Brazil confirmed in a recent report on the 24th that heavy rains have caused the death toll in the region to rise to 30, with 39 people missing. The rains began on the afternoon of the 23rd, leading to landslides, flooding, fallen trees, and building collapses, severely impacting Juiz de Fora and Ubá in Minas Gerais. In the early hours of the 24th, the Juiz de Fora city government declared a state of public disaster. The latest report from the state military fire department indicates that the disaster has resulted in 30 deaths, 39 missing persons, and thousands displaced, with rescue operations ongoing. Brazilian President Lula posted on social media to extend deepest condolences to the affected families.
