Chan Maobo: The pilot line for the third-generation semiconductor chip technology research and development and pilot production at the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research Institute will be put into operation within the year.

Hong Kong SAR Financial Secretary Paul Chan today (25th) delivered the government’s budget for the 2026-2027 fiscal year at the Legislative Council. He stated that the third-generation semiconductor chip technology research and development and pilot production line at the Hong Kong Microelectronics Research Institute will be operational within the year, promoting local chip R&D and industry upgrading. Additionally, the “New Industrial Accelerating Plan” has supported two companies developing semiconductor chip technology and equipment, with a total investment of over HKD 1.5 billion.
