According to Xiaoxiang Morning Post, recently in Shangrao, Jiangxi, a woman posted a video claiming “My sister threw away 1.5 million yuan worth of gold as trash,” which attracted online attention. On March 12, the person involved told reporters that with the help of family, sanitation workers, and police, over 1,000 grams of gold bars and jewelry worth about 1.5 million yuan were successfully recovered the day after they were lost.

The person involved said that on March 8, her sister was cleaning in the morning and accidentally threw away the gold as trash. By 11 a.m., she noticed the gold was missing and reported it to the police in Hengfeng County. The police helped check surveillance footage and confirmed that the sanitation truck had collected the trash before noon and was headed to a landfill in Yiyang County, neighboring the city.

In the afternoon, the person involved and her family arrived at the landfill, stopping three sanitation trucks preparing to enter. The team leader of the trucks judged that the trash they lost should be in the third truck. Yiyang County police arrived to assist and coordinated with the landfill management to have the third truck unload its contents. The Hengfeng County sanitation department also helped coordinate a location to dump the trash from the truck.

The person involved said she and her family, a total of eight people, searched through more than ten tons of trash, from around 7 or 8 p.m. until the early morning of the next day. Finally, they found the gold the following morning. Some of the 1.5 million yuan worth of gold has already been sold: “We didn’t dare keep so much; it’s too frightening!” She also plans to present a banner to the relevant departments that helped.

On March 12, a person in charge of the Hengfeng County sanitation department confirmed to reporters that the incident did happen. They helped coordinate the sanitation truck to return to the person’s residence. He said helping the public stop losses in time is part of their duty.
