Just realized a lot of people don't know how to properly update their SASSA banking details and it's causing payment delays. Here's what actually works:

If you're on a permanent grant (old age, disability, child grant), you can't do this online - gotta visit your local SASSA office in person. Bring your ID, proof of the new bank account (bank statement not older than 3 months works), and they'll process it through a form. Takes up to 21 working days for the bank to verify, so submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect next cycle.

For SRD R370 grant it's different - everything's online through their portal. Enter your ID number, they send you an SMS link, click it and update your banking details there. Account has to be in your name only, no joint accounts. Takes a few days to a few weeks to verify.

Phone number updates work similarly - SRD has an online contact portal where you enter your ID and application ID, then they send an OTP to confirm. For permanent grants, just call 0800 60 10 11 or visit an office. Real talk though, always use the official SASSA website to avoid those fake sites popping up everywhere. Your banking details and personal info are too important to mess with.
