Just realized a lot of people are struggling with updating their SASSA details, especially when it comes to changing bank accounts or phone numbers. Been through this myself and it's actually not as complicated as it seems, depending on which grant you're on.

If you're on the permanent grants (old age, disability, child support), you'll need to actually go to your local SASSA office in person. No shortcuts here unfortunately. Bring your ID, proof of your new bank account (a recent bank statement works), and they'll give you a form to fill out. The whole thing takes like 21 working days to process because they need to verify everything with the bank. Pro tip: submit before the 15th of the month if you want it to take effect the next month, otherwise you're waiting another cycle.

Now if you're on the SRD R370 grant, that's where things get easier. The whole process for changing your SRD banking details is online through their portal, which honestly is way smoother. You just need your ID number, they send you a link via SMS, and you update your account details from there. Takes a few days to weeks to verify but at least you don't have to leave your house.

Phone number changes work similarly depending on your grant type. For SRD, there's an online contact portal where you can update it yourself. For permanent grants, call the helpline at 0800 60 10 11 or just go to the office. One thing to remember: whatever account you're using, it has to be in your name only. They won't pay into joint accounts or anything like that, so make sure your bank details match your ID exactly.

Has anyone else had issues with the verification taking longer than expected? Curious if it's still the same waiting time these days.
