U.S. Factory Chemical Leak: 2 Dead, 30 Injured

On the morning of April 22 local time, a chemical leak occurred at a metal silver recycling plant in Kanawha County, West Virginia, USA, resulting in 2 deaths and approximately 30 people being hospitalized, with one in serious condition. Local emergency management officials stated that preliminary information indicates that at the time of the incident, the plant was shut down. Workers were cleaning a storage tank scheduled for demolition when a violent chemical reaction occurred between nitric acid and other substances, causing a toxic hydrogen sulfide leak.
