An interesting observation from blockchain data — Vitalik Buterin recently conducted a serious revaluation of his portfolio, selling off 17,196 ETH worth over $30 million. This occurred during January and early February, and now his holdings have decreased by approximately 7 percent to around 224,000 ETH.
What’s interesting in the context of assessing Vitalik Buterin’s net worth — even after such a significant sale, his position in ETH remains substantial. But the main point isn’t in the numbers, but in the direction of the use of funds. Buterin sent the proceeds to support the Ethereum Foundation during a period he called a time of moderate savings, plus funding his charitable organization Kanro.
Data shows that on January 30, a large transaction took place — exactly 16,384 ETH passed through CoW Protocol and Wintermute, resulting in 500,000 USDC being redirected to Kanro. This organization conducts open-source biomedical research and works on existential risks.
For Buterin, this isn’t the first time. I remember in 2021 he donated 1.2 billion SHIB to help India fight COVID. It seems that for him, large token sales are more of a charitable tool than just speculation. This is quite characteristic of his approach to his position in the Ethereum ecosystem and the influence he wields.
