The UK's National Cyber Security Centre strongly promotes Passkeys to replace traditional passwords
ME News Report, April 24 (UTC+8), the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) released a new technical report officially recognizing Passkeys as superior to traditional passwords and recommending them as the “preferred login method” for various digital services. NCSC pointed out that Passkeys are based on cryptographic keys stored on local devices, usually combined with biometric unlocking, and their security is “at least not weaker than, typically stronger than” the strongest passwords combined with two-factor authentication. NCSC stated that over the past year, issues with compatibility and implementation have significantly improved, with more than half of active Google users in the UK now registered with Passkeys, and platforms like eBay and PayPal have also integrated them. Therefore, the agency no longer recommends continuing to use passwords when better solutions are available. (Source: PANews)
