Philippine "Comfort Women" Rights Protection Organization "Philippine Grandmothers' Alliance" Calls for Ending the Philippine-U.S. Military Alliance and Condemns Japan for Violating the Peace Constitution
On April 20th local time, the Philippines “Comfort Women” Rights Protection Organization “Philippine Grandmothers Alliance” issued a statement calling for an end to the Philippine-U.S. military alliance and condemning Japan for violating the peace constitution. The statement said that the “Shoulder to Shoulder” joint military exercise launched by the Philippines and the United States on the same day “pushed the Filipino people to the brink of war.” The statement stated, “The United States is acting recklessly in the Middle East, baselessly waging war against the peoples of various countries, causing large-scale destruction with its war arsenal, resulting in numerous innocent civilian casualties and catastrophic ecological disasters.” The statement noted that during this year’s “Shoulder to Shoulder” military exercise, Japan sent troops for the first time, which directly violates its constitutional peace clause. The statement emphasized that the Filipino people are firmly opposed to war, oppose the United States’ wars against sovereignty countries in West Asia to seize regional strategic control, and refuse to be drawn into conflicts in the Asia-Pacific region. The statement said, “‘Philippine Grandmothers Alliance’ opposes the ‘Shoulder to Shoulder’ military exercise, calls on the Philippine government to revoke military agreements with the United States and Japan, and stresses that Japan still needs to compensate for the harm caused to thousands of Filipino women’s lives and dignity during World War II.” (CCTV News)
