Former Bulgarian President Radev's political party alliance wins the election
The Central Election Commission of Bulgaria officially announced on the 23rd the results of the National Assembly elections. The “Progress Bulgaria” political party alliance led by former President Radev won a majority of 131 seats out of 240, and Radev himself is expected to serve as the next Prime Minister. The election results show that the political party alliance that includes the Citizens’ Party led by former Prime Minister Borisov finished second but won only 39 seats, with its vote share falling to nearly half of that in the previous election. The “We Continue the Change—Democratic Bulgaria” alliance won 37 seats; the Movement for Rights and Freedoms secured 21 seats; and the Revival Party obtained 12 seats. Under the Bulgarian Constitution, President Yotova will ask the largest parliamentary faction to form the government. Bulgaria is a parliamentary republic; it has a unicameral parliament, and the Prime Minister holds executive power.(Xinhua News Agency)
