Japan advances the establishment of a national intelligence agency

Regarding the establishment of the “National Intelligence Agency,” Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party plans to push for the bill to be passed in the House of Representatives within this week. The opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and Komeito’s newly formed political party, “Centrist Reform Union,” have demanded amendments to the bill, citing “difficulties in alleviating related concerns.” In March this year, the Japanese government passed a resolution and submitted a related bill to the National Diet, proposing a new intelligence mechanism centered around the “National Intelligence Conference” and with the “National Intelligence Agency” as the specific affairs agency.
