Hundreds protest Citizens Bank’s ties to ICE outside shareholder meeting

Hundreds of people protested outside Citizens Bank’s headquarters in Providence during its annual shareholder meeting, demanding the bank cease financing private prison companies like CoreCivic and GEO Group, which operate ICE detention centers. The protest, organized by the De-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition, highlighted that the bank has allegedly provided $2.5 billion to these contractors. In response, groups like the RIFT-AFT Local 6516 union and the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization announced plans to withdraw significant funds from Citizens Bank if it continues these financial relationships.
