Quantum Demo Cracks 15-Bit ECC Key but Does Not Threaten Bitcoin Wallets Today

Project Eleven awarded its Q-Day Prize after Giancarlo Lelli used public quantum hardware to derive a 15-bit elliptic curve private key from its public key. The result does not threaten real Bitcoin wallets today, but it arrives as Google lowered ECDLP-256 resource estimates and set a 2029 post-quantum migration target that Cloudflare later matched. Project Eleven’s tracker says 6,934,064 BTC is vulnerable when public keys are already visible on-chain.
