I've been paying close attention to the DeFi ecosystem, and recently I want to discuss the TVL metric because it really reflects the temperature of this market.

TVL stands for Total Value Locked, simply the total amount of assets locked in various DeFi protocols. This number may seem just a figure, but it represents the health of the entire DeFi ecosystem and investor confidence. Currently, DeFi's TVL is around 8 billion USD, which is a significant increase compared to a few years ago.

Why focus on this metric? Because protocols with high TVL usually indicate high user trust and relative security. Conversely, if a project's TVL is decreasing, it warrants caution, as there may be issues or users are withdrawing. This metric directly impacts token prices and market sentiment.

Looking back at history, in 2018, DeFi was still niche, with a very small TVL. But by 2020, mechanisms like yield farming and liquidity mining emerged, offering yields far beyond traditional finance, causing TVL to grow explosively. During that period, various DeFi projects appeared, each injecting funds into the ecosystem.

From market dynamics, high TVL can stabilize token prices because the assets locked reduce circulating supply. Moreover, protocols with higher TVL tend to attract more capital, creating a positive feedback loop. Many DeFi protocols also adjust fees, launch new features, or change governance token allocations based on TVL data, which directly influences the project's long-term development.

Looking ahead, AI integration and cross-chain technology may further boost DeFi's TVL, but regulatory risks and security issues cannot be ignored. These factors will influence investor confidence. Some trading platforms are now using TVL as an important metric to filter DeFi projects, helping users find more reliable options.

In summary, TVL is not just a number; it reflects the scale and health of the entire DeFi market. As DeFi develops, this metric will become increasingly important. It relates to whether the projects you choose are trustworthy and the overall market direction. If you're evaluating DeFi projects, TVL is definitely a key reference to focus on.
