Lebanon-Israel Envoy to Meet Again in Washington, Pushing for Extension of Ceasefire Agreement

On April 22, the Lebanese and Israeli envoys will hold their second meeting in Washington, D.C. this Thursday, focusing on extending the soon-to-expire 10-day temporary ceasefire agreement. This agreement was brokered by the Trump administration and is currently under pressure from frequent conflicts and mutual accusations of violations. The Lebanese side stated that extending the ceasefire is a prerequisite for advancing subsequent negotiations and hopes to use this opportunity to promote key issues such as the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the release of detainees, and border demarcation. Meanwhile, clashes between Hezbollah and Israel continue, keeping the situation highly tense. Analysts believe that as an important link connecting multiple diplomatic fronts in the Middle East, this meeting not only concerns the trajectory of the Lebanon-Israel border situation but will also test the United States’ mediation capabilities in regional conflicts. Given the significant casualties caused by the conflict and the ongoing disputes over the border ‘buffer zone,’ there remains considerable uncertainty about whether the ceasefire can be sustained.
