ME News, April 14 (UTC+8). An American official and an informed source said that during negotiations held in Islamabad over the weekend, the United States proposed that Iran accept a 20-year suspension of uranium enrichment. Iran, however, proposed a shorter, single-digit year term. Sources said that the U.S. demand for a pause in uranium enrichment is a key issue in this marathon-style negotiation. “On the U.S. side, they proposed at least a 20-year suspension, along with various other restrictions,” said a source familiar with the matter. The U.S. also demanded that Iran move all highly enriched uranium out of the country. Iran said that they are willing to accept “monitored down-blending procedures” for these materials.
