Musk: The cost of starting DOGE is too high, and Tesla and many companies have been affected

Musk said in the latest interview that if he did it all over again, he would not create a (DOGE) of the Ministry of Government Efficiency, because the cost of reform was too high, which also attracted a strong backlash and affected his company’s (Tesla) operations. Once again, it proves that the rigidity and resistance of the government system are far deeper than imagined.

DOGE was originally just a joke but didn’t expect to make it to the White House

At the beginning of the interview, the host took Musk back to the day he was sworn in, when he was handed a computer and a mobile phone, and began to deal with the so-called government efficiency reform.

Musk said that DOGE’s original name was actually called the Government Efficiency Commission, but someone left a message on the Internet suggesting:

“It should be called the Department of Government Efficiency, and the abbreviation happens to be DOGE.”

When he saw it, he thought it was fun and smooth, so he adopted it directly. The name went from an internet joke to an official White House department, which made him feel incredible.

Stopping hundreds of billions of dollars in invalid spending, DOGE has had some success

When the host asked him if DOGE was successful, Musk said that DOGE was somewhat successful, and the results were not small. He pointed out that the U.S. government has a large outflow of money that should not be paid at all every year, which is an invalid expenditure without a payment code, purpose, or explanation, and the amount may be as high as $100 billion to $200 billion.

He said that what DOGE does is require the most basic rules to be added to the main system of the fiscal department and other government payment systems:

“To request money or expenses, you must attach a code and a reason. Such a simple restriction can block many unreasonable amounts.”

Musk explained that there are two to three percentages in government payments that essentially should not exist at all, but have been spending continuously before the reform. He said that it is not easy to stop these improper payments because not many people will take the initiative to say to the government, “Don’t send me money again”, so DOGE’s job may seem simple at first glance, but it is actually very difficult.

After the reform, there was a strong backlash, and the cost was greater than expected

When it comes to the pressure in the process of pushing DOGE, Musk’s tone has become noticeably heavy. He bluntly said that as long as the money that originally flowed in the direction of political corruption was stopped, it would be strongly counterattacked.

He even said that “these people” really wanted the money to continue flowing to them, so when DOGE blocked improper payments, the rally was very violent. He also hinted that these backlash are not just political, but also affect the operations of Tesla and other companies. He said:

“If DOGE hadn’t been done in the first place, some electric vehicles might not have been burned.”

It shows that DOGE is far more costly than the outside world understands.

If you can do it all over again, you won’t start DOGE again

The host asked Musk:

“If he could go back to 1/20, would he start DOGE again? And after understanding all the consequences, is he willing to do the same reform again?”

Musk answered “no” very clearly. He said that if he went back in time, he would invest his time and energy in his company, not DOGE, and would not expose himself to those additional attacks. He spoke calmly, but confessed that DOGE cost him too much that he shouldn’t have incurred.

( Musk officially leaves the DOGE government efficiency department! Since taking office, he has saved 150 billion US dollars for the United States, revealing that the next step is to return to Tesla )

There is no illusion about government efficiency reform, and it cannot be changed in the short term

The host asked him if he had experienced these things and felt desperate about government reforms. Musk said he didn’t have much fantasy to begin with. He does not expect the government to be an efficient machine, but believes that the government can do as little as possible.

He emphasized that DOGE’s essence is simply dealing with unwanted waste of spending, rather than adding new projects or intensifying interventions. This reform made him more convinced that the inertia and resistance of the government system are deep-seated structural problems, not something that can be changed in the short term.
